NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Lions Club and volunteers were visible at the four-way stop in downtown Nokomis this past weekend, October 8-9, giving away rolls of candy and accepting monetary contributions to be used for helping the visually and hearing-impaired.
It is almost impossible for those who can see and hear normally to fully understand what it is like to be visually or hearing-impaired.
Along with helping the Lions Foundation, funds collected will go toward local projects funded by the club. These projects include the junior and senior high school athletic banquets, eyeglasses for needy schoolchildren, Standing Against Addiction and Drugs (SAAD), Nokomis-Witt Area Ambulance Service, Project Share, the local Boy Scouts troop, Nokomis Memorial Pool, the Nokomis Homecoming fireworks display, Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department and Junior Explorers, Montgomery County CEO, and the Nokomis After Prom.
Friday evening workers included Emelia Ferrero, Tim Huber, Brenda Bruder, Jim Rupert, Herb Hunt, Donna Hunt, and Jim Ferrero. Saturday morning workers included Mary Jo Funk, Michael Glenn, Jim Rupert, and Judy Rupert.
Those interested in joining the Nokomis Lions Club may join them at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at Kamer’s Kove in Ohlman for their monthly meeting.
