HILLSBORO — The Hillsboro City Council approved an electrical aggregation agreement with Constellation NewEnergy at their meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 6. This means Constellation will be the electricity supplier for the city from October 2024 through June 2025.

Residents and businesses are not required to participate in the aggregation program; however, they must opt out if they do not wish to participate. Consumers who opted out a few months ago must do so again if they still do not wish to participate in the program.

Notices were sent in June due to a price reduction in the current agreement, and the city was required by law to notify consumers of the change and give the option to decline participation in the program. The new opt-out notification comes as a result of the new agreement.

It is important to note that, despite Constellation being chosen as the electricity supplier, residents and businesses will still receive their energy from Ameren. The agreement locks in a rate of $0.07719 per kilowatt hour during the nine-month period, which compares to the current Ameren price of $0.08136 per kilowatt hour. Before the new agreement expires, the city will re-evaluate options for residents and businesses.

Opt-out letters will be mailed, and consumers should expect to receive them on or around Aug. 21. The deadline to opt out is Sept. 11. Instructions on the opt-out process will be included in the letter.
