South Korea welcomes Trump’s letter to Kim Jong Un

SEOUL, South Korea (UPI) -- South Korea says it positively evaluates U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to send a letter to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, offering U.S. assistance on the novel coronavirus. Seoul's unification ministry spokeswoman Cho Hye-sil suggested Monday at a regular press briefing Trump's letter to Kim contributes to peace in the Koreas, Yonhap reported. Over the weekend, North Korea fired two short-range projectiles into the sea, according to the South's military. "The exchange of letters […]

Trading oil no longer intrigues T. Boone Pickens

DALLAS (UPI) -- After a "roller coaster ride" that saw $100-per-barrel swings in crude oil prices, tycoon and former oil man T. Boone Pickens said he's bored with trading oil. The 89-year-old investor, who nine years ago launched The Pickens Plan, designed to drive the U.S. energy sector away from its dependence on foreign oil, said in a statement he was shutting down his oil- and gas-commodity focused BP Capital. Launched after he left Mesa Petroleum in the 1990s, Pickens said he's seen oil move […]

PARIS/TEHRAN (UPI) -- French automaker Renault announced a joint venture with Iranian authorities on Monday, despite U.S. efforts to isolate Iran economically. The $779 million deal between Renault, Iran's state-run Industrial Development and Renovation Organization and privately-held Parto Negin Naseh, calls for up to 300,000 cars per year to be built at a factory in Saveh beginning in about 18 months. Monday's agreement calls for 30 percent of Renaults manufactured in Iran to be exported. The first phase of the deal calls for 150,000 vehicles. […]
