COMMENTARY: A New Illinois won’t fix anything, Alan Webber

So, I'm spending a half-day on my 34th birthday working on the website when I get bombarded with a bunch of Google Alerts. One of these alerts relates to anything relating to the state of Illinois. Among one of these alert blasts, this ridiculous op-ed today from the Kankakee Daily Journal was among them. Not even two paragraphs in did op-ed columnist Alan Webber make some factual inaccuracies: Webber states, "However, if you review election returns, Biden didn’t win the […]

Illinois county continues to shed layers of government

WHEATON (The Center Square) -- The county that served as the test case for local government consolidation in Illinois has continued to shed layers of government to save money for taxpayers. DuPage County, located in the western Chicago suburbs, announced that it had dissolved a seventh unit of government when a judge signed an order dissolving the Highland Hills Sanitary District last month. The district served 529 properties in and near Lombard, but was facing a large tax hike to pay […]

Industrial hemp is used for CBD oil, food, clothing fiber and food, according to Liz Rupel, the policy organizer at Illinois Stewardship Alliance. “We are pretty pleased with what the Department of Agriculture produced,” […]

OP-ED: Two wrongs don’t make a right in ‘Fight for $15’ debate

The "Fight for $15" an hour is back in Illinois, although it's not likely to be much of a fight and this time there's a bit of a twist. Democratic Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker is telling anyone who will listen that he wants to gradually raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour starting in the first six months of his term that begins in January. Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed the last legislative attempt to gradually raise the state's […]
