NEAR EFFINGHAM -- On Friday at approximately 4:19 a.m., the Effingham County Sheriff’s Department and the Illinois State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash on I-57 southbound, approximately three miles south of Effingham. Home, auto insurers respond to new Illinois laws

Illinois insurance companies are responding to new state laws that give regulators authority to review and approve home and auto insurance rate changes. Gov. JB Pritzker signed the bills Tuesday. Illinois and Wyoming were previously the only states without regulatory control over insurance rates. The new laws take effect July 1, 2027. House Bill 4273 addresses homeowners insurance. EAST ST. LOUIS – The Illinois Department of Transportation will fully close westbound Interstate 64 between I-255 and 18th Street in St. Clair County beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14, weather permitting. EDINA — The Edina City Council approved a 45-day trial of automated license plate reader cameras as city officials seek additional tools for police investigations.
