ST. LOUIS (Heartland Newsfeed/Ambush Sports) — Starting pitcher Jack Flaherty has been renewed for the 2020 season with the St. Louis Cardinals, according to a press release Sunday.

MLB sources stated in an interview with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Flaherty will earn $604,500 in 2020, although the Cardinals organization did not officially release any financial terms.

Under team policy, if the club has to renew a contract, a player’s salary is reduced by $10,000. That penalty was offset by a $10,000 bonus from the franchise for finishing fourth in voting for the National League’s Cy Young Award, according to the Post-Dispatch.

The renewal marks the second consecutive season that the organization has renewed Flaherty’s contract. Flaherty, who is 24, earned $562,100 in the 2019 season.

Flaherty, a first-round draft pick in the 2014 MLB Draft, started 33 times with an 11-8 record and a 2.75 ERA.

24 other players not currently eligible for salary arbitration were also signed to one-year contracts.
