SPRINGFIELD (Heartland Newsfeed) — A power outage in sections of downtown Springfield Monday is affecting customers and has forced some facilities of the Illinois state government to be closed or partially operational, according to a state press release.
City Water, Light and Power crews have been responding to these outages throughout the day.
Among those impacted as of their most recent release:
- The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity inside the Ridgely Building, located at 500 East Monroe is closed for business all day.
- The Unclaimed Property Division of the Illinois Treasurer’s office inside the Myers Building, located at 1 West Old State Capitol Plaza has status pending. Anyone needing to access their services should call (800) 961-8303 or by going to the treasurer’s website.
- The Department of Children and Family Services at 4 West Old State Capitol Plaza is closed. Alternative sites are being determined to continue providing services. Anyone needing to access their services should call (217) 524-2029 or by going to the DCFS website.
The release revealed that the Illinois Commerce Commission inside the Leland Building (527 East Capitol Avenue) and the Illinois Community College Board (401 East Capitol Avenue) had their power restored with normal business operations resuming.
Illinois Central Management Services continues to monitor the situation and will provide updates as circumstances evolve. It is anticipated that while some offices impacted may see power restored soon, others may not see service return until mid-afternoon today. Customers are advised to contact the affected departments’ offices to learn if alternate sites are identified to provide services.
