PEORIA COUNTY — The Illinois Department of Transportation is set to begin a resurfacing project on Route 8 that will close lanes in parts of Peoria County starting next week.

The project starts Monday, August 3. Crews will first focus on a stretch of Route 8 from Taylor Road to the Interstate 474 overpass near Edwards.

A later phase of the project will run from Texas Road near Oak Hill to Taylor Road. IDOT says the project will include milling, resurfacing and cold in-place recycling.

The work is part of Illinois’ broader Rebuild Illinois program. Rebuild Illinois is a six-year, $33 billion effort aimed at improving more than 7,000 lane miles of highway. Another component of the program involves over 8 million square feet of bridge deck statewide.

IDOT expects completion of the first two portions of the Route 8 project to be by late November. Motorists should expect delays, allow extra travel time, and consider alternate routes when possible. Drivers should be aware of posted speed limits. They must also stay alert in work zones and avoid distracted driving.
