WITT — The Witt Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire early Wednesday morning.

The department would receive the dispatch call at 3:42 a.m., with Command 300 being the first to arrive on the scene of the fire on Monroe Street. Command was established, reporting light smoke emitting from the structure.

Firefighters would enter the residence shortly after the arrival of Engine 301. An investigation would reveal a fire coming from the attic, which sat above the living room area.

A handling of 1.75 inches was utilized to extinguish the fire. Thermal imaging cameras were also in use to check for extensions of the fire into other areas of the attic.

Additional support from Engine 304 and Ladder 307 would arrive on the scene for additional fireground operations.

Nokomis Area Fire Protection District would also assist on the scene as automatic mutual aid.

Additional mutual aid calls to the Fillmore Fire Protection District and the Rapid Intervention Team from the Litchfield Fire Department were cancelled while they were en route.

Nokomis-Witt Area Ambulance Service was also on the scene for medical support.

A preliminary investigation of the scene would determine that the cause of the fire was electrical in nature. No injuries were reported.
