Trapping permit drawing for Ramsey, Coffeen lakes

SPRINGFIELD — Public drawings for trapping permits will be this Friday, October 27, according to press releases from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

There will be drawings that day for trapping at Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area in Montgomery County and Ramsey Lake State Park in Fayette County.

The respective drawings will be at:

  • Coffeen Lake SFWA site office: 15084 N. 4th Avenue, Coffeen
  • Ramsey Lake SP site office: Ramsey Lake Road, Ramsey

Registration for the Ramsey Lake drawing will be at 8:30 a.m. with the drawing starting at 9 a.m. Registration for the Coffeen Lake drawing will begin at 10:30 a.m. with the drawing starting at 11 a.m.

Trapping will be permitted in designated areas within both parks from the statewide season opening until January 25, 2024. It will also include the extended spring season for mink and muskrat trapping through February 15 and beaver and otter trapping through March 31.

Entrants will need to present a 2022 or 2023 trapping license or must have completed a trapper education course (with documentation) to register.

Two names are allowed per permit, and only those on the permit will be allowed to trap. Winning entrants must be present at the drawing.
