STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE commentator Pat McAfee will remain with the company after signing the dotted line on a new contract extension Thursday.
McAfee has been the color commentator alongside Michael Cole on Friday Night SmackDown since April 2021.
The new agreement will see McAfee entertaining the WWE Universe for several years to come. However, it is currently unknown how many years the extension is for.
Earlier this year, McAfee delighted fans and lit up social media with a WrestleMania debut for the ages at AT&T Stadium in Dallas. That debut would include battles with Austin Theory and boss Vince McMahon. He would also receive a Stone Cold Stunner from WWE Hall of Famer “Stone Cold” Steve Austin.
In addition to his duties at WWE, he operates a company that produces his namesake podcast The Pat McAfee Show and hosts a daily show on SiriusXM.
Prior to joining WWE, McAfee was a punter for the Indianapolis Colts from 2009 until 2016. In addition, prior to the 2009 NFL Draft, McAfee was in a wrestling match for an independent promotion in West Virginia.
McAfee’s first experience with WWE was in 2018 as a pre-show analyst for NXT TakeOver events. After training in the WWE Performance Center, he made his debut on the NXT developmental brand in 2020.
He will be in action at WWE Summerslam on July 30 against “Happy” Baron Corbin.
Smackdown airs at 8 p.m. Eastern each week on the FOX television network.
