Blue Jackets, Boqvist ink 3-year extension

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed defenseman Adam Boqvist to a three-year, $7.8 million extension Wednesday, according to a team announcement.

The deal has an average annual value of $2.6 million. Boqvist will earn $2 million in the upcoming 2022-23 season. The salary will increase by $600,000 per year for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons to $2.6 million and $3.2 million respectively.

Upon completion of this contract extension, he will become a restricted free agent.

The 21-year-old arrived in Columbus during the summer of 2021 in the package deal that sent defenseman Seth Jones to the Chicago Blackhawks. In 52 games played during the 2021-22 season, he recorded 11 goals and 11 assists.

The Blue Jackets (37-38-7) finished sixth in the Metropolitan Division last season, failing to make the playoffs.
