Heartland Newsfeed impacted by service outage

NOKOMIS — Heartland Newsfeed’s newsroom operations came to a temporary halt over the Independence Day holiday weekend.

At around 7:30 p.m. Saturday, we started noticing access issues to the website, as well as the server backend.

We would receive a notification confirming this issue from our web host, Hivelocity.

Initial reports would reveal that Hivelocity’s data center in Orangeburg, New York was impacted. The area would suffer damage as a result of severe storms in the area. It would also impact power and fiber internet services.

Due to delays in getting electrical service restored to the area, the fiber internet company was delayed in its attempt to restore service.

It wasn’t until overnight, going into Monday, that the power company started restoring power. That would reach completion, or near-completion status, as of noon Central time. This would allow the fiber teams to start with the repairs.

The last update from Hivelocity was around 3:55 p.m., but we are experiencing signs that service is back live. Early signs came through reports that were submitted through several WordPress plugins.

Heartland Media Group of Central Illinois and Eastern Missouri will be requesting credit from Hivelocity for the time during which our service was offline
