FRISCO, Tex. — Michael “Mike” John Klein of Frisco, Texas passed away March 28, 2024, at the age of 78. He was born on April 30, 1945, in Shelbyville, the son of Celeste and Ethelyn Galvin Klein. Mike married Carol Oller on October 12, 1963, and they shared a life full of devotion and cherished memories.
Mike worked for Plano Independent School District for many years and served as Director of New Construction before retiring. He also served as Vice President and Director of Facilities and Construction for Legacy Texas Bank.
Although Mike was raised in Illinois, he grew to be a proud Texan. He truly believed and always quoted, “It’s not just a state, it’s a whole state of mind.”
Mike spent his favorite days with his family – whether it be exploring the hill country of Texas in the family’s RV or listening to Willie Nelson and Elvis. Mike’s heart and soul was larger than life, and he adored his family. He had a punch line for everything, or as he would say, a “Texas tale.” Mike’s greatest joy in life was making those around him laugh. Mike will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was truly one in a million.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife Carol Klein of Frisco, TX, children Sonja Tate and husband Rod, and Philip Klein and wife Barrett, grandchildren Amanda Carlucci and husband Matt, Peyton Walling and husband Chase, Harrison Klein, and Holden Klein, great-granddaughter Holland Carlucci, and a host of other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Bill, O.J., Richard, Jerry, James, and Fritz, and sister Lynn Connor.
A private family service will be held at a later date.
