Douglas Egbert, 67, Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE — Douglas Dwight Egbert, 67, of Jacksonville passed away Thursday, April 11, 2024, at his home.

He was born November 13, 1956, in Garden City, Kan., the son of Gilbert and Phyllis Snyder Egbert. He was raised in Dighton, Kan.

He met Mary Tobin on September 28, 1989, and they were married at their home on November 19, 2005.

Mary was the love of his life, friend, fellow sports fan, and gardener partner, which included doing most of the “harvesting”. Their son TJ completed their family. That is until their beautiful and accomplished granddaughter Rilie was born. Over the years they enjoyed following the many successes and accomplishments of both son and granddaughter.

He graduated with a BA from Kansas State University and a couple years later achieved his MBA from the University of Kansas. Doug was a proud alum and lifelong supporter of his beloved KSU Wildcats and the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. EMAW! He loved gardening and looking through seed catalogs. He had recently planted fruit trees and built raised beds for all his prized plantings.

Following a car accident in 1983, Doug used a wheelchair, but was never confined by it. His disability never kept him down. Doug was employed by Consolidated Grain and Barge in Naple, accepting several promotions which included relocations to other offices in several states. They moved back to Jacksonville to finish Doug’s career at Diversified Services.

Doug was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, Ansar Shrine, and Rasna Shrine Club.

He is survived by his wife Mary, his son TJ, granddaughter Rilie, siblings Nancy Egbert, Boulder, Col., Tracey (Lawrence) Brundrett, Canyon Lake, Tex., David Egbert, Tulsa, Okla., siblings-in-law Joe (Renee) Tobin, Pat (Susie) Tobin, Francie Fanning, Laura (Randy) Prichard, Tom (Nancy) Tobin, Jeannie (Mike) Allan, and Beth (Joe) Kaufmann, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Phyllis Egbert and brother Barry Egbert.

A funeral mass was held Wednesday, April 17 at the Church of Our Saviour with burial at Calvary Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to Shriners Hospital for Children or Morgan County Animal Control.
