Steven Dean “Fuzz” Sims, 71, of Pana died on October 10, 2023 at his favorite place on earth, “the farm”.

He was born August 26, 1952 in Pana, the son of the late Norman Harold and Dona Ilene (Dilley) Sims. Fuzz married Debra Davis on December 18, 2004, and she survives.

Fuzz was a graduate of Pana High School, class of 1970, and was immediately employed at Firestone in Decatur where he was a tirebuilder until the Decatur plant closed. He then worked at GSI in Assumption until 2016. Fuzz loved his most recent employment as a tow truck driver for Curtis Morrison at Curtis Towing in Tower Hill.

Fuzz was a faithful member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Pana where he served in many roles over the years including Sunday school teacher, children’s church teacher, singer, drummer, and bassist. Being involved in his church and dedicating his life to the Lord was the main component of his lifestyle. He made witnessing the Gospel to others a priority.

Fuzz was also a member of the Mid-America Sport Parachute Club in Taylorville and enjoyed skydiving anywhere and everywhere he could. Fuzz was a long-time member of the Okaw River Band where he played in many venues. Other passions include hunting, guns, motorcycle riding, camping, boating, and Pana Panther football. Fuzz kept up on politics and world events and was always eager to share his views. He loved spending time with his family and many friends.

He loved people and welcomed everyone to everything he was involved with. Everyone was always welcome to join in on motorcycle rides or holiday dinners. He was a joker, prankster, and a storyteller. He loved to eat.

Fuzz dearly loved all of his grandchildren, but spent many years teaching and mentoring his sidekick, Kadan. Fuzz’s influence, patience, and guidance led Kadan to start his own successful lawn business.

In addition to his wife, Fuzz is survived by his sister, Patricia Sinclair (Butch); children, David Sims (Sarah), Rebecca Childers (Mike), Jenna Kraus (Tyler), Jared Trexler (Britney), Kody Bland (Chloe); and his beloved Wieno. Surviving grandchildren are Emily Sims (Christian), Abbey Doan (Julian), Dylan Moon (Robbi), Kadan Moon (Peyten), Hadlee Garman, Krue Kraus, Kyler Trexler, Karlee Trexler, Christian Tapia, Lauren Tapia; and one great-grandchild, Liam Doan. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Fuzz was preceded in death by his parents; brother Donald; and infant daughter, Courtney Beth Sims.

Visitation was held at the First United Pentecostal Church of Pana on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following. Memorials may be made to the First United Pentecostal Church of Pana.
