Illinois lawmaker files bill to end automatic pay raises for legislators

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) -- A state lawmaker has filed a bill to end automatic pay hikes for state legislators. Every year, lawmakers must vote to freeze their own pay, or it goes up according to the statute. In 2019, lawmakers left that language out of the budget and got raises of about $1,600 a year. State Rep. Mike Murphy’s bill would remove the automatic cost-of-living adjustments and require lawmakers to vote for legislative pay hikes. “We’re one of the better […]

Libertarian Drew Miller had 1,372 votes -- more than enough to make the difference between the two major party candidates. Absentee ballots in Washington County still need to be counted, but that might not happen until Wednesday morning, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. "Oh, […]

NEW YORK/MONTGOMERY, Ala. (UPI) -- Sen. Pat Toomey said Sunday he thinks embattled Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore should "just step aside." "A write-in is something we should certainly explore," the Pennsylvania Republican told host Chuck Todd on NBC's Meet the Press. "I think Luther Strange would be a strong candidate for a write-in." Toomey made the remarks after The Washington Post last week reported Moore's alleged relationships with teenage girls while he was in his early 30s. Moore, now 70, has denied any […]
