Madigan doesn’t have enough votes for another term as Speaker, Democrats say

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) -- More Illinois House Democrats have said they won’t support Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan for another term. Every two years, the Illinois House votes for speaker; 60 votes are needed. The office manages how the House operates. Madigan (D-Chicago) has held that spot for all but two years since 1983. Pritzker says winter COVID-19 deaths could dwarf spring numbers

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave an ominous prognostication Wednesday regarding COVID-19 deaths in Illinois. With an additional 140 deaths being reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health, 11,014 people have now died from COVID-19 and related illnesses. CHAMPAIGN -- The University of Illinois Fighting Illini, ranked eighth in the AP Top 25, is hosting a multi-team event to kick off their 2020-21 season. COWDEN/WINDSOR/SORENTO -- Three students in south-central Illinois have been admitted to Culver-Stockton College's incoming class in the fall 2021 semester, receiving academic scholarships.
