PHOENIX (UPI) -- A Federal judge on Monday found Joe Arpaio, a former sheriff in Arizona, guilty of ignoring a judge's order to stop racial profiling in immigration enforcement. (UPI) -- Charter Communications Inc. ended speculation it would acquire Sprint Corp., announcing it would not seek a merger between media companies. Japanese telecommunications and Internet company SoftBank Group, whose U.S. subsidiaries include Sprint, proposed the deal. It called for a merger of Sprint and Charter, controlled by SoftBank. SILVER SPRING, Md./CINCINNATI, Ohio (Heartland Newsfeed) -- Discovery Communications Inc. said Monday they have reached an agreement to buy Scripps Networks Interactive Inc. in a cash-and-stock deal valued at $14.6 billion, including $2.7 billion of debt. Discovery will pay $90 a share, or 34% over Scripps' unaffected share price as of July 18. The deal is expected to close by early 2018.
