NOKOMIS -- Severe thunderstorms and straight-line winds made for a rough evening earlier this week. The storms struck the panhandle and eastern regions of Montgomery County on Sunday, leaving considerable damage in their wake. HILLSBORO -- The University of Illinois Extension office in Montgomery County will be offering the state-mandated Certified Food Protection Managers class and exam. The Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Code requires food service establishments to be under the operational supervision of a certified food protection manager. HILLSBORO -- A machinery-related accident late last week at the Deer Run Mine in Hillsboro resulted in a fatality.
