Illinois early deer hunting numbers up region-wide

SPRINGFIELD -- Illinois hunters have harvested just over 47,000 deer during the first weekend of firearm season. This first weekend was from Nov. 20-22. The overall total of 47,147 falls just over 3,000 short of the 2019 mark of 50,173. These figures come from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources. DECATUR -- There will not be a late February primary for the Decatur City Council in 2021. Twelve candidates made candidate filings to City Clerk Kim Althoff for the past week. The filing deadline for cities with over 10,000 residents and home rule municipalities across Illinois was at 5 p.m. today. Of the 12 filings, two are current aldermen. Madigan doesn’t have enough votes for another term as Speaker, Democrats say

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) -- More Illinois House Democrats have said they won’t support Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan for another term. Pritzker says winter COVID-19 deaths could dwarf spring numbers

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave an ominous prognostication Wednesday regarding COVID-19 deaths in Illinois. With an additional 140 deaths being reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health, 11,014 people have now died from COVID-19 and related illnesses. Illinois municipal group seeks more local input on COVID-19 action

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) -- Gov. J.B. Pritzker has criticized local governments for not enforcing his COVID-19 orders, placing blame for increased cases at their feet.
