Amazon hops on board the blockchain wagon

Blockchain technology is not a new thing, but when corporations announce their usage of the technology, the Internet goes wild. Retail giant Amazon made an announcement last month during their ReInvent conference that they were going to join the blockchain trend by starting two blockchain-oriented ledgers. The announcement was made by Amazon Web Services (AWS) CEO Andrew Jazzy regarding their newest endeavors under the blockchain -- Quantum Ledger Database (QLD) and Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB). GUEST EDITORIAL: Pensions keep Illinois in fiscal turmoil

Goodbye to Illinois’ $130 billion pension hole. Now it’s $133 billion. And getting deeper. Sometimes the clearest warning about Illinois’ fiscal crisis can be communicated using numbers, sometimes with a well-chosen phrase. Here we present both, as reminders during the period before a new Democratic governor takes office with a Democratic mega-majority, that the state’s messes will only worsen. Until lawmakers take decisive action. First, the awful numbers: For several years we’ve cited the figure of $130 billion to represent Illinois’ […]

OP-ED: Holiday shopping and the sales tax Scrooge

The average American will spend around $800 on gifts this Christmas. But making those holiday buys in Illinois will leave many families wishing they could get more bang for their buck. FDA traces romaine E. coli outbreak to California farm; some lettuce safe to eat

The agency said the farm has been cooperating with the outbreak investigation and hasn't shipped any romaine lettuce since Nov. 20. So far 59 people in 15 […]

OP-ED: Two wrongs don’t make a right in ‘Fight for $15’ debate

The "Fight for $15" an hour is back in Illinois, although it's not likely to be much of a fight and this time there's a bit of a twist. Democratic Gov.-elect J.B. Pritzker is telling anyone who will listen that he wants to gradually raise the state's minimum wage to $15 an hour starting in the first six months of his term that begins in January. Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner vetoed the last legislative attempt to gradually raise the state's […]

Devices such as laptops and smartphones, which hardly existed just a decade ago, are now seemingly impossible to live without. Similarly, products which we have seen emerging in the last couple of years are expected to become part of the furniture in 2019. The […]
