LAFAYETTE, La. (UPI) -- One person survived a small passenger plane crash in Lafayette on Saturday morning while trying to make an emergency landing, killing five people and injuring three others on the ground. House passes stopgap bill to prevent government shutdown

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- The House has passed a short-term spending bill to prevent the government from shutting down later this week when it was to run out of funds. The stopgap measure, known as a continuing resolution, passed 231-192 to keep money in government coffers until Dec. 20.
