NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Public Library hosted the University of Illinois Extension on Tuesday as part of the library's Summer Reading Program. According to a news release from library director Lisa Casterline, the program had 15 children and five adults in attendance for the Extension's presentation on small mammals in Illinois. ASSUMPTION -- The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) held an open house-like public hearing at Central A&M Middle School in Assumption Thursday night. The subject matter of the hearing was to discuss the intersection of U.S. Highway 51 and Leafland Street on the east side of town. SPRINGFIELD -- Recently passed legislation in the Illinois General Assembly could result in a significant expansion of Springfield's premier events complex. Legislation greenlighting a proposed $93 expansion of the Bank of Springfield Center (BOS Center) could very well become a reality if signed by Gov. JB Pritzker. PANA -- Residents in the city of Pana will be able to bring their junk this weekend through a coordinated program. The City of Pana, in coordination with Pana Pride, will host "Dumpster Days" Friday and Saturday at the city's street department yard, located on North Elm Street. NOKOMIS -- The Nokomis Public Library announced the kickoff of its annual Summer Reading Program earlier this week. The summer program, which has been held for many years at the library, kicked off on Tuesday. It will run through August 5 prior to the start of the 2024-25 academic year.
