SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced Friday that a bridge deck patching project on U.S. 67 in Morgan County will begin next week.

The project involves the southbound bridge over Mauvaise Terre Creek between Concord/Arenzville Road and Thomason Road. This project begins Monday, August 3, per the news release Friday..

At least one southbound lane of traffic will be open during the bridge deck patching. Arrow boards and drums will be in place to help direct traffic. Benefits from this project include a smoother driving surface and prolonging the lifespan of the bridge.

IDOT currently expects the project completion in mid-September.

Motorists can expect delays and allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers should pay close attention to changing conditions and signs in the work zones. Drivers should obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment. Motorists should to use alternate routes to avoid the area if possible.

The project is part of the second phase of the Rebuild Illinois infrastructure program. In the first seven years of the program, $25.6 million improvements were done statewide. That translates to 24,298 lane miles, 959 bridges, and 1,475 additional safety improvements.

The newest phase of the program seeks to improve 7,107 lane miles of highway over a six-year period. In addition, the program will seek to improve 8.4 million square feet of bridge deck. The project is covered as part of this $33.2 billion investment across all modes of transportation
