NFL returning to Germany in 2026, 2028

NEW YORK/MUNICH (UPI) — The NFL will return to Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, for additional regular-season games in 2026 and 2028, the league announced Wednesday.

“I am delighted about the extension of our contract with the NFL, which once again demonstrates the importance and strength of Munich as a sports city,” Munich mayor Verena Dietl said in a news release.

“The previous games have not only won the hearts of fans, they have also strengthened our successful cooperation with the NFL.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers beat the Seattle Seahawks in 2022 in Munich. The Carolina Panthers beat the New York Giants in 2024 at the same stadium. Two additional games with four other teams were played in 2023 in Frankfurt, and in November, the Indianapolis Colts beat the Atlanta Falcons in the first-ever Berlin contest.

Regular-season games are planned for Berlin in 2027 and 2029. The NFL previously confirmed 2026 regular-season matchups in Melbourne, Rio de Janeiro, and London.

The league said Germany has more than 20 million football fans, which equates to the largest fanbase in Europe.

“Germany is of huge strategic importance for the NFL in Europe, and our return to Munich signals the league’s long-term commitment to playing games in the market,” NFL DACH general manager Alexander Steinforth said.

“As the first host of regular-season games in Germany, Munich holds a very special place in the hearts of our fans, and we look forward to continuing to create memorable experiences for them while building a year-round NFL presence across this city and country.”
