Nokomis Lions host 51st annual basketball tournament

NOKOMIS — The Nokomis Lions Club sponsored the 51st annual eighth grade Lions basketball tournament last week, which ran from November 1-5 in the Nokomis High School gym.

Teams from Nokomis, Vandalia, Pana, Morrisonville, (Taylorville) Vision Way Christian, Hillsboro, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, and Shelbyville would participate in the tournament.

Lions Club members helping with this event include Jim Ferrero, Gary Hulbert, Ray Kamer, and Marty Dawson. Other members include Brenda Bruder, Michael Glenn, and Jim Rupert.

Other volunteers helping out include Robert Davis, Tim Chumley, Jim Reese, and Kurt Brackenhoff. Additional volunteers include Charlie Friesland, Janet Ferrero, and Judy Rupert.

The Nokomis Lions Club tournament has for many years sold their $1 bag of popcorn.

This event is the club’s main fundraiser to fund the boys’ and girls’ athletic banquets, as well as provide students within Nokomis CUSD #22 with eyeglasses for those in need.
