Truesdale man faces felony domestic assault charge

TRUESDALE, Mo. — A Truesdale man faces a felony domestic assault charge after police said he allegedly choked a woman following an argument about her dog.

Christopher W. Pender was charged Thursday, Aug. 6, with third-degree domestic assault. The alleged incident occurred the night before, according to a probable cause statement.

Police responded to a residence shortly before 10 p.m. Aug. 5 after receiving a report that a woman had barricaded herself inside a bedroom.

The woman told officers she had dated Pender for about a year. She said an argument began when she went to put her dog in its kennel.

According to the statement, Pender allegedly threw a water bottle at the woman. He then allegedly grabbed her by the neck and choked her.

The woman told police she feared for her safety. She said she escaped and barricaded herself in the bedroom.

Pender admitted that he threw the water bottle, according to the probable cause statement. The statement said he told police the argument involved “how she chooses the dog over him.”

Pender said he could not remember whether the confrontation became physical. However, the statement says he acknowledged that he had “did wrong” and had been involved in physical domestic incidents in the past.

Pender is being held without bond in the Warren County Jail. The charge is an allegation, and the case remains pending in court.
