Nokomis council calls special meeting

NOKOMIS — Despite initial plans to hold a special meeting next week, the Nokomis City Council decided Wednesday that the meeting will take place sooner than planned.

The City Council announced during Monday’s city council meeting that a special meeting was on the books for Tuesday, July 21. However, that no longer appears to be the case.

The agenda for a special council meeting came out on Wednesday. The agenda would reveal that the meeting will instead take place on Friday afternoon, July 17, at 4:30 p.m.

The limited agenda focuses on one unresolved matter from Monday’s meeting: discussion and possible personnel action concerning an employee of the Nokomis Police Department.

The pending agenda item appears to be related to the June 17, 2026, incident at Casey’s General Store involving K9 Officer Nathan Brookshire. Brookshire is still under supervisory oversight while an internal review and external investigation by the Illinois State Police are ongoing.
