SPRINGFIELD – The Illinois Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday the third official notice of funding opportunity through the Illinois National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Program, which will provide approximately $65.6 million for the construction of charging stations across the state.
The latest opportunity builds on the first two rounds, which awarded funding for 62 charging stations along Illinois interstates to help meet Gov. JB Pritzker’s goal to have 1 million electric vehicles on Illinois roads by 2030.
“With Gov. Pritzker leading the way, IDOT is continuing its work to create and support safe, reliable options for clean, affordable travel,” said Illinois Transportation Secretary Gia Biagi. “This funding will help sustain and improve charging infrastructure that benefits drivers in communities throughout Illinois, providing a welcome boost for local economies.”
Applications must be received by Feb. 13. Applicants are encouraged to submit before the deadline; however, applications will be considered on a rolling basis. All application materials can be found at https://idot.click/NEVI. Awards are anticipated to be announced in early 2026.
Selected locations will have at least four fast-charging ports, each of which can fully charge a typical EV in less than 30 minutes. This round includes expanded eligibility for projects along all U.S. routes and scenic byways in the state, as well as projects designed to support medium- and heavy-duty electric vehicles.
To explain the funding opportunity and how to apply, IDOT is hosting two informational webinars, one for light-duty applicants on Dec. 11 at 10 a.m., and one for medium- and heavy-duty applicants on Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
Registration may be completed at the link provided on IDOT’s NEVI webpage. Recordings of the webinars will also be posted to the site for reference throughout the application period.
