NEW YORK (UPI) -- The NHL and its players' association reached a tentative deal Friday to stage a 56-game season in 2021. The upcoming season would start Jan. 13 under the 56-game plan. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed the agreement, which is pending the approval of the NHL board of governors and the National Hockey League Players Association's executive board. TORONTO/EDMONTON (Midwest Sports Network) -- The National Hockey League is making their final preparations leading up the return of hockey action to end the 2019-20 season. The teams will play 12 games over three days in hub cities. All Eastern Conference games will be played at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto; all Western Conference games will be played at Rogers Place in Edmonton. CHICAGO (UPI) -- The Chicago Blackhawks parted ways with President and CEO John McDonough, the team announced Monday. McDonough, who was hired by the Blackhawks in 2007, was viewed as an important piece of the franchise's championship-winning teams. Under McDonough, the Blackhawks won Stanley Cups in 2010, 2013 and 2015. Before those titles, the team hadn't won a Stanley Cup since 1961. ST. LOUIS (UPI) -- St. Louis Blues forward Vladimir Tarasenko underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, the team announced Tuesday. The Blues said the procedure was successful and the forward will be re-evaluated in four weeks. Tarasenko, 27, played in 76 regular-season games and recorded 68 points (33 goals, 35 assists) this season. The 33 scores marked the fifth consecutive 30-goal season for the forward. BOSTON (UPI) -- The St. Louis Blues defeated the Boston Bruins 4-1 in Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday night to claim their first NHL championship in franchise history. COLUMBUS (UPI) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets acquired standout left wing Ryan Dzingel from the Ottawa Senators on Saturday, the team announced. The Blue Jackets sent left winger Anthony Duclair and two second-round picks in exchange for Dzingel and a seventh-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft. NASHVILLE (UPI) -- The Nashville Predators acquired veteran forwards Brian Boyle and Cody McLeod on Wednesday, the team announced. The Predators sent a second-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for Boyle.
