McCann drops second public defender in federal trial

SPRINGFIELD -- The trial of former state senator and one-time gubernatorial candidate William "Sam" McCann will not occur until next year. According to our media partners at WLDS, McCann appeared in federal court Monday morning before Judge Colleen Lawless to set a trial date. GRANDVIEW / SHERMAN -- The Illinois State Police reported two closures Monday morning along Interstate 55 in news releases to the media. Canadian wildfires cause Illinois air quality issues

SHELBYVILLE -- The National Weather Service in St. Louis and Lincoln issued air quality warnings earlier this week for most of Central Illinois. The air quality issues are in relation to the ongoing wildfires in Canada in which the smoke was blown south across most of the Midwestern and New England states. SPRINGFIELD -- Leaders of Lincoln Land Community College (LLCC) and Illinois Wesleyan University announced Tuesday a new guaranteed admission agreement. The agreement will allow eligible LLCC graduates to transfer seamlessly to Illinois Wesleyan. “This is a partnership that will benefit both of our institutions,” said Dr. Jason Dockter, interim vice president of academics at LLCC. Petersburg man charged with child pornography possession

Police have arrested a man from Petersburg on charges of possessing child pornography after a two-year investigation. Authorities said the man had images and videos of children being victims of sexual assault. Adam L. Power, 29, of Petersburg was arrested Wednesday by Athens Police Department.
