NOKOMIS -- Land of Lincoln Credit Union -- LLCU -- has given the new Nokomis library additional funds to complete its project. In a press release from LLCU earlier this week, the bank donated $10,000 towards the project. A check was presented to library trustees on May 8. The funds will help support all remaining costs of the building renovation for the new library. DECATUR/NOKOMIS -- Land of Lincoln Credit Union -- LLCU -- of Decatur and Nokomis Savings Bank -- NSB -- have entered into an acquisition agreement. The agreement, signed by LLCU President Robert Ares and NSB President Charlie O'Malley on April 28, will allow LLCU to acquire NSB. The agreement is contingent on regulatory and member approvals. QUINCY -- Jury selection will begin in Adams County Court Monday in the murder trial of Timothy W. Bliefnick. Bliefnick, 39, is facing charges of two counts first-degree murder and one count of home invasion. The charges stem from a February shooting death of his wife Rebecca Bliefnick. Bliefnick made a not-guilty plea on March 24 to the counts. Rebecca Bliefnick was found dead by a family member on February 23 in her home on Kentucky Road. The status check […]
BLOOMINGTON -- A Bloomington man is facing pending charges relating to charges on child pornography. 51-year-old Dennis L. Covington is facing charges of 40 counts of child pornography. All but nine of those charges are Class 2 felonies, while the remaining nine have a Class 3 felony designation. The charges stem from alleged offenses occurring in February and March of 2020. COALTON -- The Coalton Village Board heard safety concerns relating to dogs at large running loose around the village. These concerns were heard during its regular business meeting on Wednesday, Apr. 12. Residents Keith and Kathy Pierce addressed the board about these issues with dogs running loose. NOKOMIS -- Two trees that have recently been cut down in Johnson Park in downtown Nokomis is being considered for replacement. The Nokomis City Council discussed the replacement during its regular meeting on Monday, Apr. 10. RAYMOND -- Panhandle Schools will be offering a free developmental screening for children entering preschool. The screenings will be on April 27-28 for children ages between 3 and 5 residing within the district. If your child is already in the program, you will not need to have them re-screened.
