We'll See About That with Ron Cey Episode 157 Leave Tom Hardy Alone! Ron Cey
As the Libertarian National Convention quickly approaches Grand Rapids, Mich., before Memorial Day, the next host has been selected for its 2028 national convention.
A report from the Independent Political Report confirms the 2028 host city to be El Paso, Texas, following a 9-8 vote over Richmond, Va., by the committee ending on Tuesday, February 17.
The committee heard proposals on February 10 during a special virtual meeting from officials representing El Paso and Richmond. A third contender, Frisco, which is also in Texas, did not appear during that meeting.
Committee members were allowed to vote “None of the Above,” which would have prompted a further push and additional research on additional and potential alternative.
The final vote came to El Paso and Richmond after removing Frisco from further consideration.
The Libertarian National Committee solicited venue submissions last October. They were seeking sites capable of accommodating a ballroom of at least 30,000 square feet, a secondary space of 9,000 square feet for meals, additional breakout rooms, and an exhibition area sufficient enough for up to 50 booths.
That proposal cited the dates of February 18-21, 2028, although it may be subject to change. Should the dates stick, this would be the earliest national nominating convention for the party since 1992.
The first round of voting resulted in an 8-8 tie with a single abstention. Per party bylaws, voting must continue until majority rule is met.
Region 1 Representative Andrew Chadderdon, who abstained in the previous round, voted for Richmond in the second round. At-Large Representative Douglas Knebel changed his vote from Richmond to El Paso, reaching the majority requirement for approval.
Further planning stages have yet to begin for the 2028 convention. However, it will not reach a final status until late 2026/early to mid-2027.
The 2028 convention will include the party’s presidential nominating process to nominate its candidates for president and vice president.
A video recap of the February 10 meeting is below.
