HILLSBORO — The 2021 program booklets for the Montgomery County Farmer’s Institute and Household Science Section is now available. The booklets have been distributed to local Montgomery County businesses, and they are also available at the University of Illinois Extension Office in Hillsboro.
Entries for the Farmer’s Institute will be accepted from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 10, and from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 11. After entries are in place, they will be subject to a judging period and may then be viewable by the public at no charge.
Participants should pick up their prizes and entries beginning at 2 p.m. and no later than 3 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at the Extension office in Hillsboro. Breakfast snacks, BBQ, hot dogs, chips, cookies, soda, coffee, and water will be available, and proceeds will benefit the Montgomery County Farmers Institute.
Anyone who resides within Montgomery County is eligible to have entries in various classes and categories, including:
- Agricultural sciences (five divisional categories)
- Fruits and vegetables (20 divisional categories)
- Flowers and plants (nine divisional categories)
- Canned goods and miscellaneous (eight divisional categories)
- Fancywork and sewing (11 divisional categories)
- Culinary (seven divisional categories)
Youth can submit entries in multiple divisions. Please refer to the 2021 Montgomery County Farmer’s Institute and Household Science Section booklet for rules and more detailed information.

All individuals must wear a face-covering in University of Illinois Extension indoor spaces, regardless of vaccination status. However, a face covering is not necessary when eating or drinking.
