*Position Objective:*
This position is responsible for general supervision of residents and their activities, milieu management and with facilitation of group meetings. Additionally, this position serves as a primary counselor for up to two Pathways inpatients at a time providing case management, counseling, collaborative treatment planning and discharge planning to adults with primary substance abuse and co-occurring mental health disorders
*Essential Functions:*
Provides supervision of resident environment and activities, including setting limits and providing interventions as needed in collaboration with clinical staff.
Orients new patients concerning treatment expectations, patient rights and responsibilities.
Transports patient to and from groups, breaks, meals and appointments as needed.
Under supervision, provides case management, discharge planning and referrals for up to 2 assigned patients, to appropriate level of care/aftercare and to community resources.
Conducts counseling sessions while establishing therapeutic alliance and maintaining effective working relationships with patients. Maintains chart documentation, under supervision according to Joint Commission, COMAR and Pathways’ requirements.
Collaborates with other Pathways Counselors to manage emergent and complex patient issues including cross-coverage of patients assigned to other counselors as needed.
Demonstrates beginning knowledge of ASAM and DSM V criteria relative to the assessment of patient needs throughout the course of treatment. Attends and participates in clinical inpatient team meetings, multidisciplinary clinical staff meetings along with in-service and other assigned trainings.
Facilitate weekly didactic, focus, and/or therapeutic groups as assigned and may be responsible for group coverage due to vacancy or absence.
Under supervision, determine patient strengths through counseling and assessment; integrate patient’s expressed goals into treatment planning including achievable steps with specified target dates and recognizing progress.
Work collaboratively with patient and multi-disciplinary teams, under supervision, to provide care to each patient based on their unique needs, strengths, values and preferences.
*Required Education:*
High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college course working toward AA or BS degree in behavioiral health field. 2 years recovery oriented sobriety may substitute for some college course work in behavioral health.
*Required Experience:*
One year work experience in behavioral health, or 2 years recovery oriented sobriety.
*Required Licensure/Certification:*
Approval as an Alcohol and Drug Trainee from the MD Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists (BOPC) or Certification as a Peer Counselor/Recovery Coach is required within 1 year of hire.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association within 30 days of hire.
Valid driver’s license and driving record with no more than two points.

Very heavy work: Exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects

CARDIAC REHAB
Our department is AACVPR-certified (American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation), and recognized as a “Best Practice” facility for our integration of EMR technology. Cardiac Rehab employs a multidisciplinary team of experts, including ACSM-certified Exercise Physiologists. All team members are BLS and ACLS trained and certified.
LABORATORY
There is tremendous opportunity for cross-training and growth within our CAP (College of American Pathologists) and AABB (American Association of Blood Banks) accredited laboratory. Our multidisciplinary team includes Phlebotomists, Medical Technologists, Histotechs, Pathologist Assistants and Medical Laboratory Technicians. Together, we are driving LEAN principles and practices throughout the department, working toward optimal efficiency and effectiveness across all of our facilities and draw sites.
NEURODIAGNOSTICS
Our Neurodiagnostics area continues to evolve with the changing needs of our community. We are adding new equipment and otherwise working to improve the diagnosis and treatment of seizures, dementia and other brain conditions. We primarily hire EEG Technologists with proven experience. Registered technologists are preferred.
PHARMACY
We are a progressive and innovative pharmacy operation that is recognized by leadership as a valuable clinical partner in the delivery of high-quality patient care. Pharmacists at Anne Arundel Medical Center are encouraged to develop a specialty by working on various clinical units, as part of a multidisciplinary care team. There is the opportunity to do rounds and request scheduling in areas of interest, as well as advance into a Clinical Specialist role. Our Pharmacy Techs also have outstanding career development and cross-training opportunities.
RADIOLOGY
Our Radiology team is comprised of professionals at all levels of expertise, from Radiology Escorts to senior-level Radiologic Technologists. Together, we are poised at the leading edge of diagnostic and imaging science, with access to the most advanced MRI, CAT scan, 3D mammography, Ultrasound, PET/CT and nuclear medicine equipment. The state-of-the-art environment here at Anne Arundel Medical Center encourages our radiology professionals to gain new skills and knowledge through additional educational, certification and training. We are proud to be one of only four hospitals that has received recognition from Siemens for our innovation in radiology dose control. Our Radiology team was also one of the first in the region to utilize DaTscan to identify and confirm the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
Anne Arundel Diagnostics Imaging (AADI) was the first in Maryland to earn the Breast Imaging Center of Excellence award, first in Anne Arundel County to offer stereotactic breast biopsies, and first to open a comprehensive breast health center.

Rehab Technologies
The Outpatient Health Sciences Pavilion on our main campus is fully equipped with ceiling lifts, Lite Gait, Alter G treadmill, Bioness UE/LE, Elite Seats, cold therapy laser and BTE.
RESPIRATORY
We hire Registered Respiratory Therapists who want to work as part of a large, diverse and self-scheduling team. We are an evidence-based practice, where Therapists work independently with physicians using Respiratory Therapy-Driven protocols. You can have opportunities to participate in bronchoscopy assisting, learn about advanced modes of ventilation (including APRV and NAVA), support a busy Level III NICU, and train for clinical and leadership advancement in a career ladder or as Pulmonary Disease Navigator.
