J ob Description:
There is an immediate opening for a FT, 35 hr/ week position as the Reality Check Lead within our Youth Services Programs. Though this program is 35 hours, it also works non-traditional hours depending on work load, so some weekend and evening work may be necessary depending on programming. Bi-lingual applicants encouraged to apply.
As part of the Comprehensive Tobacco Control Program of NYS and DOH, the Reality Check Coordinator will be trained to utilize a community-based strategy for working with youth and adults. The goal of the program is to educate and empower both groups to take action to mitigate, reduce or eliminate the tobacco industry’s deceptive marketing practices and help create local environments which reinforce tobacco-free communities throughout the catchment area (Fulton, Hamilton and Montgomery Counties.).
Work includes : community education, community mobilization, government policy maker education, and advocacy with organizational decision makers with both youth and adults. Additionally, the RC Coordinator will help engage youth aged 13-18 in action-oriented activities and impart the necessary leadership skills to engage in policy related tobacco control work.
The RC Coordinator will work closely with the Program Director and Community Engagement Coordinator to ensure work plan deliverables and sustained efforts are accomplished in their designated area.
Qualifications:
+ Minimum degree required: Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Psychology, Human Services, Education, or comparable major.
+ Preferred Experience: Working with youth, or families; in or with schools; and community groups/ organizations.
+ Experience with diverse backgrounds and populations.
+ Self-motivated and willing to seek out community connections.
+ Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
+ Public speaking required.
+ Some evenings and weekend work is required.
+ Must have own transportation and clean driver’s license.
+ Background check and fingerprinting required.
