Who We’re Looking For – Managing Editor – HighSpeedInternet.com

As the Managing Editor of highspeedinternet.com, you will lead a team of writers and editors while defining and implementing the overall editorial vision for our brand.

This role is responsible for setting editorial guidelines, frameworks, and strategies that enable us to create high-quality, conducive content that connects our readers to practical, useful solutions. The Managing Editor is responsible for partnering with the Brand Director, Partner Manager, and cross-functional leadership to align on strategy, goals, and execution to ensure the content plan drives the business forward. As Managing Editor, you will be responsible for growing our site traffic, user base, and user engagement, and setting standards in methodology, research, and content creation.

The Impact You Will Make

  • Manage internal team of editors, writers, and content creators
  • Establish the editorial strategy for highspeedinternet.com, including standards in methodology, research, and content quality, and publishing
  • Report on content production and performance, giving insight and transparency into the financial impact of editorial projects. Provide weekly briefings that give visibility to the brand team and executive leadership on content performance.
  • Co-own editorial strategy through to bottom-line revenue w/ Brand Director
  • Co-own traffic and revenue forecasting for growth opportunities, budgeting, and forecasting based on content performance and reporting w/ Brand Director
  • Co-own developing partnerships with advertisers, press, and other publishing sites w/ Digital PR representatives
  • Develop content strategy in new channels (including organic and paid social, email, video)
  • As needed, review, edit, and proofread content to maintain quality standards and consistency across the site
  • As needed, assign projects to editors and writers
  • Provide performance feedback and reviews to direct reports through regular 1:1 coaching and mentorship
  • Recruit and hire a team of top-notch creators and leaders, including evaluating organizational structure and defining new roles to support the ongoing needs of the business
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to identify standard methodologies, frameworks, and deliverables for superior content creation, including content models, voice/tone guides, documentation; and how to produce top-performing and user-friendly content
  • Integrate SEO and CRO recommendations to drive higher traffic and revenue across the site
  • Embrace giving and receiving candid feedback both to and from your direct reports and leadership
  • Champion UX/editing/writing best practices
  • Respond to media inquiries as necessary
  • Drive projects to finish
  • Provide weekly content briefings to executive leadership

What You Need

  • Established expertise in journalism/digital media, with a strong editing portfolio of consumer-focused content
  • Demonstrated skill helping others write clear, concise, compelling content
  • Experience managing a team of writers, editors, and/or freelance contributors
  • Ability to articulate and implement a clear editorial vision for the site and an understanding of how to stand out from competitors
  • Ability to interpret financial performance data and apply it to content strategy
  • Ability to edit quickly and efficiently while maintaining high content quality
  • Experience delivering feedback to writers and editors through both written comments and face-to-face interactions
  • Strong understanding of CMS (WordPress a plus)
  • Solid understanding of creating and distributing editorial content for SEO, social, email, and PPC
  • Solid understanding of Google Analytics, Data Studio, and other reporting tools and how to report on content performance at the site and page level
  • A growth mindset
  • Strong decision-making skills
  • The ability to flex from one topic/industry to another quickly and effectively
  • Other Considerations
  • 5+ years management/supervisory experience
  • 8+ years in journalism, advertising, online marketing, media, news, or publishing with at least 5+ years editing
