Dumi Right, who was apart of Zimbabwe Legit, were the first African group to record hip-hop in America. They provide a high energy, multi-dimensional live show that highlights various hip hop elements and incorporates a musical soundscape that seamlessly blends gritty beats with sundry influences of African rhythms, jazz and funk.
Not your typical rapper, Dumi’s performance is more of a hip hop cultural celebration or immersion and an invocation of the spirit that the founders intended. We discuss the days in Zimbabwe traveling to the U.S., and what a storied and long career looks like up through 2020.
Armed with that conviction, for his latest offering, Dumi once again collaborates with legendary Brooklyn, New York MC Chubb Rock for a fiery track titled We Don’t Need” provides a commentary on the state of the world. We also dive deep into politics and his remix of Nightfall with Mr. Lif, and of course, what lies ahead as the year progresses.
