12 candidates file for city council seats in Decatur

DECATUR -- There will not be a late February primary for the Decatur City Council in 2021. Twelve candidates made candidate filings to City Clerk Kim Althoff for the past week. The filing deadline for cities with over 10,000 residents and home rule municipalities across Illinois was at 5 p.m. today. Of the 12 filings, two are current aldermen. SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) -- More Illinois House Democrats have said they won’t support Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan for another term. Every two years, the Illinois House votes for speaker; 60 votes are needed. The office manages how the House operates. Madigan (D-Chicago) has held that spot for all but two years since 1983. Pritzker says winter COVID-19 deaths could dwarf spring numbers

SPRINGFIELD (The Center Square) – Gov. J.B. Pritzker gave an ominous prognostication Wednesday regarding COVID-19 deaths in Illinois. With an additional 140 deaths being reported by the Illinois Department of Public Health, 11,014 people have now died from COVID-19 and related illnesses.
